Being a good parent-offer Choices

Many parents believe that give children a variety of choices will help good choices in their increasing autonomy.

However, many young people are hardly miserably confused by anything that is on offer. they want everything when it is offered and have little understanding around only this or that, but not both. children usually will take the lot!

Here is a question by Melinda asking for help with make and make choices.

Hi Elena,

good parent

Do my 3-yr old limited choices (select b/t these two shirts turkeys sandwich or a hot dog, etc.), but it doesn't work!

She refuses to both options or comes out with a third (wanting to wear a shirt that I haven't offered; wanting pasta when choosing one of the options mentioned above).

I'm trying to be a good father following the advice of "giving choices" but not working at all and am at my wits end. what to do when your child refuses to go ahead with the plan "giving choices"??

Thank you
Melinda

Hi Carla there,

Yes, it feels like wits end to have a three years ago with their floor around choices!

good parent

Give children choices helps them feel they have some control over their lives. However, there are also times when there are no situations choice. These are decisions that call for parents to say the full and final.

Remember that the kindest word, you can say sometimes is no!

Then there are times when your child is given limited choices as you suggest, how to choose between these two elements.

At this point is that, being consistent becomes necessary. If you ask her to make the choice between two items and then let you dictate with a third party, you will always choose something different.

good parent

It is difficult at first to remain calm and consistent, but if you approach this with clarity within yourself and determination to remain consistent, then you will find easier over time.

There are several aspects to your question.

First, you have only recently started to implement ' giving choices '? if so, it will take some time and patience for you to reach your destination.

Secondly, you are making it clear that a choice of either this or that means only this or that and everything else? once the baby understands that there is another option available so there is a limited choice.

Maybe it will be easier to have a consequence to begin with for example this sandwich or a hotdog or not at all scared. I will try to not make a big deal about it and some distraction will help as this is established as a new routine.

Offer clear explanation, offer choices and then become involved in something that you remove from hovering above you. Try to be very busy to get food for you, e.g. If you stand over her then becomes a command and not of his choice, and you will be quick to see the difference.

good parent

It only takes a couple of times of stops for your daughter to understand that you mean standing.

The goal for a clear explanation, the two choices and no further negotiation. Is certainly useful for a three years to realize that you mean what you say.

When you think about it, the kids seize opportunity to be contrary and we help promote that if we are not standing still, clear and consistent in our approach.

There are also times when our children are raised when we make decisions for you can suggest them., "could be the banana or yogurt, or I could decide for you".

Three year olds learn really quickly and you will find that the approach clear, firm, consistency also works miracles in many other situations.

I encourage you read about consistency approach and warm praise to try to be a good father.

Mar 29, parenting plan sample

parenting plan sample

Example plan of parenting

Numerous books have been written with a sample of parenting plan for children as their base. from Dr. Spock to Gina's model Ford programming tightly controlled and all models permissive in between, parents are commonly called to create regular timetables for their babies and young children.

Many people shudder at the thought of normal procedures, sample plans and programs written by established family. others are convinced that it is the only way.

Parenting plan sample schedules and routines create children safe, independent and family happy, well adjusted, rather than creating manipulated, controlled, families and children dull, unimaginative, how many parents believe.

Lack of routine of the parents is the cause of much stress in many families today.
Children thrive on safety, borders, routines and consistent order,
not chaos, drama and irregularities.

Is usually already stressed families and those who have difficulty who ask for parenting plans and programmes as ways of controlling their daily lives.

Interestingly, these parents who request a sample of parenting plan usually are addressing plans and schedules to their infants and children.

However, often find that the basic system of parental families and routines exist are usually where both problems and answers.

For Kelly and James:
Recently I was asked to evaluate a family where the baby was "creating chaos", to quote the parents.

In their desperation for some semblance of order in their home, young people, parents and James Kelly, were willing to do anything to avoid clutter constant further spiralling out of control.

Their child is an active bright, almost two years ago. When I suggested that it was difficult to imagine that he had created all this ferment, grandparents have been quick to convince me that Toby was the cause of the problems of the whole House!

No one was ever sleep, meals were a thing of the past, their relationship was "hold" and Toby constant grizzling had donned his parents down. Life, according to Kelly, had become a constant grind.

After observing the morning routine household, my recommendations came as a surprise to parents of Toby.
consistent parenting adviceSlows! stop and Listen to Each Other plan a Regular NightAssess date confirms its regular meals the routine personnel togetherMinimise clutterPlan strategies to minimize personal chaos which lost car keys, wallets misplaced and constantly lagging. be consistent in your dealings with others wasn't difficult for me to see that behaviour modelling of Toby was that his parents; nevertheless they had not seen as they were creating chaos.

Fortunately, they both love their kid and immediately undertakes regular planning sessions to confront its routine absence. is permissible also has many activities for each day, constantly fast and not take care of their own needs or to each other.

In response to personal consultation, Toby's mother, Kelly, came to see that she had strong feelings of guilt not to contribute to household income. This has caused to run around in order to avoid facing his feelings.

James has admitted that the extra financial responsibility of a child had caused stressful feelings for him that he had not admitted, or discussed with Kelly.
Simply slowing and the time to consider truthful their feelings and habits within some advice created more space, care and routine itself.

This was the beginning of many changes in their daily lives. becoming clear, firm and consistent in their approach to parenting certainly helped Toby to feel more steady and sure.

Within a couple of weeks, Kelly reported that Toby was responding well to a more structured and systematic environment while she and James had minimised their former chaos and disorder and were enjoying a quiet and life more organized collection.

They prepared weekly times debate to clear the air of any negative emotions and to stay honest with each other. Look first to existing procedures, practices and schedules with your family try dealing with the chaos and confusion in your adult life first. Implementing new systems for children within the existing chaos of family life is a bit like putting the cart before the horse. I recommend your sample parenting plan looking ideas around routine and order. Children thrive and grow in adult independent, confident when surrounded by procedures and safety.
Be aware that the surprise, spontaneity and magic are enabled when
firm, clear and consistent routine are strongly in place.

Feb 9, Children chores-value and responsibilty solely lies Self Learning

What's your attiude around children chores and repsponsbility? Some parents wonder whether children should do chores, believing that it is their responsibility to cook or clean.

Other parents believe that children learn responsibility and experience to life by regularly doing their part in housework.

What do you think?

Here is a question that was recorded by Angie.

We need a 10 years ago, shy of 11, 3 months be remembered to do his chores?
Was published the chore list for 3 years.

My husband thinks he should be remembered. think he should not.
How is he for more responsibility if he is remembered?

.

Hi Angie there,

I think this question raises a very good point about responsibility. It also provides a good opportunity to discuss attitudes about setting chores within families.

children chores, responsibility

First, let's deal with the chore list that has been registered for 3 years.Time for a change?

Why not mix a bit? if you are having families discussions on your child's sense of responsibility, it seems to me that this is a good time to change things around.

Together on how to find a middle way above reminding your son?

As in most things, is here necessary balance.

I would suggest that if you see how encouragement or support instead of remembering, this way of looking at it will go a long way towards creating harmony and fun even with chores. When you start to feel like life in the army, and if your approach is dictatorial, then children tend to see only the irksome side rather than the feeling that they are showing their value within their family.

Each year of life and responsibility is learned at stages brings more depth to the notion of being responsible. is also on gaining self respect, self-esteem, self-confidence and forge a strong self-image – all these are part of a continuous learning curve.

How about starts again with the list of chores and see what are the recommendations for change to come from your family?

Maybe there are several ways you might face the daily tasks and more provide an incentive for your child to take on more responsibility.Maybe your child can come up with some good ideas for change.

children chores, change

A bit of competition, some jollying, a different schedule or sometimes a surprising reward, can freshen up your approach and relieve stress that can often become established with the roster chore.

Chores for children and parents effective

Parents effective offers great opportunities for children to have a say in their family life and to help aid in exchange for what they receive.

Effective Parents provide opportunities for their children to learn the conscientious thinking decision-making, and help others.

Some families call this doing chores! others call a family member being evaluated.

A great way to understand what your child is able to do this is to ask whether you're doing a job that is absolutely capable of.Children need opportunities to show what they can and to learn which itself than accountability. Can always do too much with trucks full of encouragement!

Chores of children and war!

Unfortunately, doing chores can become a real battle ground and transform into all out war in some cases I believe families are missing the point when this occurs.

There is much learning lesson or planning ahead in the mind of a sulky, belligerent guy that constantly feels forced ... There is no sense of his being a contributor when this is the case. instead it feels as if he should give his pound of flesh or being punished.

Work with your children-this leads wonderful opportunities to children chores really listen and talk to them, while working alongside them.

children chores

Every child has their own way of being unique. work together around the House is a great way to learn more about the uniqueness of each child and this allows them the opportunity to do things their own way.

Zapping!

Surprise is a great incentive.

I truly believe in responsibility for children, but I also believe that boring routines take away the sense of thinking for one is in itself too.

Encouraging your child to look, think and act for himself, is to provide him with very real opportunities to shine for you and for the provision of incentives.

Children chores and Growing Up

Without the responsibility to help around the House regularly how children learn to be prepared for life?

It is also our responsibility as parents to prepare our children for the rest of the world to leave home to run their own lives and knowing how to Cook, clean, store, plan, budget, buy clothes and be prepared makes this task much easier for them.

Those years from childhood to adulthood in flight of the past. your children will thank you for their preparation for life.

Kids today Are Doing Everything they Arent first?

Children today are doing everything above arent they? You hear all the time. Having previous boyfriends and girlfriends, session of exams, staying home alone etc.. And as I recently discovered, utilizing technology!

My son from the word go was very technologically mentality, he would grab a gadget TV, would play with the keys on the phone and turn on the TV and switch off. Nursery, Recently began before starting kindergarten he couldnt use your mouse on your computer and if he wanted to do anything on your computer need someone to sit with him, one month later by starting from nursery and he can use the mouse with enough confidence! iPod touch? There is no problem! he is also sussed out like find fortunately hasn of new app remind my password!

But ultimately this is a dangerous thing? Are our children gaining more knowledge is needed? We from an early age by limiting their excercise?

Its very easy as parents to leave our children sat in front of the TV, I play on computer etc., so we can get with housework, chores, have a bath and for mothers WAHM, do just that! If we as parents are tired Cbeebies is the babysitter ideal isn't it? The reality is that it's not that many years ago televisions, computers, iPod, game werent around! While I was growing up computers have been gaining a presence and I can remember going up very quickly how to use them and often is better than my parents to troubleshoot computer problems. However I didnt think that one day my children would be better than me with technology, after all I grew up with technology. But maybe they will? Maybe they are going to be the generation that use technology to everything.Maybe, one day my son will have a better understanding of computers than me, maybe he'll have cracked hurdles I havent as HTML.I guess time will tell.

So during this summer just remember there are many other easy baby-sitting for example puzzles, board games, tea parties with teddys, making dens, cars of boxes – all these things that require only a little imagination and can entertain the kids for hours, so, turn off the TV, turn off your PC and attend! play games you once enjoyed! and while your at it why not share with us what were those games? what you did before computers?

Baby Announcements by Mae Armstrong DesignsWhether you have wanted a baby for years or your pregnancy was unexpected, the birth of your baby is one of the most memorable and cherished moments of your life.  As a proud new parent, you want to show off your gorgeous bundle of joy, and baby announcements are the perfect way to send a little baby gift to your family and friends.

While you can order pre-made announcements or have a printer make them for you, it is also a great activity to do yourself or to share with some close friends.  Here are some ideas for announcements that are almost as cute as your baby.

One of the easiest ways to make cute baby announcements is to find free templates online.  You can choose the template you like, import your picture, add your child’s name, date and time of birth, height, and weight. From there, you simply review and print.  You can use photo paper for a more polished look.  These are technically pre-made, but they will save you time and money, and you can add a personalized comment in the text box.  If you are sending out 100 announcements, this is the way to go.If you’re not especially crafty, you can still make great homemade announcements.  One idea is to purchase some baby scrapbooking paper.  Cutting this in half will yield two good sized cards.  The patterns are cute and certainly appropriate for the occasion.  On the outside, glue a favorite baby photo. Inside, simply write (or print from your computer) your baby’s information and a nice message.  That’s it.  It’s personal, unique, and easy to do for a moderate number of recipients.Purchase a stack of blank greeting cards and a box of “Hello, I Am…” stickers.  Simply affix the sticker to the front of the card and write your child’s name.  Inside are his birth stats and a photo of the beautiful baby.  It is a good time to note that everyone wants a photo with their announcement! If your baby is willing, and sleeping, you can buy an ink pad and stamp his footprint on blank cards, with photo and birth information inside or below.  These make excellent baby keepsakes and are great to cherish later on when they have grown. If it is unlikely that your kicking baby will lie still for this, you can just get a rubber baby foot stamp.  No one needs to know!Vellum offers a very easy way to make elegant announcements.  Purchase fun scrapbooking paper, vellum (a filmy paper often used in wedding invitations), and double-sided tape.  Use double-sided tape to affix a large photo of your baby to the paper (if the page is 5×7, for instance, you can use a 4×6 or even 5×7 photo).  Step one is done. Next, print your baby’s name and stats on the vellum.  Check to make sure the paper is compatible with your printer and select “transparency” for the paper type.  Step two is done.  All you need to do is put two small strips of double-sided tape on the top of the photo page and affix the vellum over it.  Attach the top only so the recipients can lift the vellum and see the picture more clearly.  In place of double-sided tape, or in addition to it, you can use a blue or pink ribbon. You can always announce your child’s birth online.  Many parents are doing this through a website devoted to their baby or sending emails.  This is perfectly acceptable today, especially if you have a large amount of people with whom to share the news.

You could send out a photocopied picture of your baby with hastily scrawled birth information, and people would be happy.  You are playing to a friendly crowd, so don’t be afraid to experiment. You can really do no wrong. In the end, they will care about your baby’s photo, his name, and whether he is healthy and happy.

Contradictory parental Council - who has IT needs?

Yesterday, I opened my paper to read yet another article parenting is unfortunately evident but still tries to, that is his new and exciting content. He achieved this remarkable feat by adding some different words and yet more "syndromes." Complexity is, of course. Why? EH well, more complex make you something more lucrative, that it opens avenues. You have to visit your local library to see how many complex parenting has. There are literally hundreds of books aligned everything potty train how your child in a few... hundreds of easy steps to a array of confusing ways to help your child to go to sleep. On the radio and television, we are bombarded commercials for DVDs on how to raise children or items must have the modern parent today. It allows you to ask how parents obtained long before modern marketing came to our collective emergency.

So those who were once dark and now that we have been carefully informed, what comes next, I wonder? Maybe the parents will be getting so worn and confused traipsing through the minefield of hints that some guru will come to our rescue with a parent means that does not really dealing with the children of parents. A robot may be, that we can program to meet our own child before internal whims he knows same that he has the. Well that would be consistent with our society, would be - it not? I mean, who wants to wait for something? Much better that we get what we want before we even know we want it.Oops, I see a problem on the horizon with the new good robot.La idea is that I can identify the problem, that must mean, I am a visionary, but the bad news is, I can't schedule the DVD player, not to mention a robot.

OK, so what's a parent when dealing with everything it often contradictory parental advice? Now, I will propose something really amazing here. A parenting plan that will have singing you in the aisles. Something that I could certainly put on the market for three easy payments of $ 29.95. What is you ask? It's here... guts. Yes, that's all. GUT instinct. And I mean in both directions of the courage to make difficult decisions terme.Avoir and listen, really listen to your gut instinct. Man, aka homo sapiens, have been on this planet for a few hundred and sixty thousand years and is that in the last few, so many people who have become lost in a maze of confusion when it comes to children.

Parents, put down these books advice or if you need to study to know keep at least one and listen to your instincts instead. They are there, promise.Deep down this voice little drones and and all you need to do is increase the volume.Cela means that you'll never have any questions or want to request advice?Well heard step, but it will certainly help you become more justified and when junior reaches for the chocolate bar in the Safeway, you'll know everything what to say.And as for me, I'll keep looking for a case book and TV spot!

Brother intimidation: when the fireplace is Ground Zero

The weekend morning is quiet; the boys are sleeping in. But if today is like most mornings I can bet on what will soon happen. My eight-year-old son will wake up first. He will wander in and say good morning or head to the television. He will find some cartoons to watch or he may even help himself to some cereal.

Eventually my older, more challenging child will awake. He is in fifth grade. He isn’t as likely to seek me out for a morning “hello” while I am doing laundry or dishes. However I will know he is up because sooner or later I will hear a scuffle. Maybe some shouts of protests from his younger brother as he takes over the television or intrudes on whatever activity his younger brother is involved in. And if the situation quickly escalates, before I can intervene, I will even hear some crying. This sound is usually preceded by the sound of a smack, fist-hitting flesh.

These are not moments I look forward to first thing in the morning, but it is a scene at our home that has played out countless times over the years. My older son, Jimmy can be quite the bully. And sadly Glenn, my youngest, wears the war wounds of being his nearest target: the bruises, the torn clothes, and the tear-streaked face.

Jimmy’s bullying behavior isn’t reserved for just the classroom, the playground or programs where people outside our family lodge formal complaints. Others may not realize that daily our family is confronted with these same serious issues. We are living at ground zero.

The other day Jimmy, pointed and sneered at shirtless Glenn told him he was getting fat and growing “man boobs.” I remind Jimmy, as always that we “talk nice” about others. And that day Glenn chuckled and laughed it off. But I’ve also seen Glenn suck in his tummy at Target when he’s shared a dressing room with his brother. I hate the negativity that spews from Jimmy’s mouth. He has planted many seeds of self-doubt in Glenn’s self esteem. I have tried to redirect him, I try to set positive examples even during moments when it feels like all the patience has been drained from my body. It is exhausting being Jimmy’s mother.

When you’re living with a bully there can be many side effects for the whole family. And weight gain may be one of them. When you have a menacing, critical, physically abusive family member, even one who’s only eleven years old, food can be a great ally, a soothing device. And I’m not talking carrots and celery. No, I’m talking about polishing off a bag of chips, a stack of cookies when your feelings are hurt. While Mom and Dad are busy dealing with timeouts and consequences food can be comforting. And after a rough day, and the kids are in bed, I have been known to comfort myself with the pint of Ben and Jerry’s hidden away behind the frozen corn even though I think a pint of Jim Beam is what would really numb the pain.

There is no doubt about it, we all could use some more exercise, time in the parks, a walk in the neighborhood. But over the years much of our time has been filled with Jimmy appointments. During which time we have all been forced to spend time waiting. Waiting in the office at the school, in the lobby at the counselor’s, waiting at the tutor’s, at the homeopath. Waiting while we’ve searched for help and answers.

It is difficult, the position our family is in, the position my younger son is in. I desperately want change for our whole family. Yet when I see a fresh bruise on Glenn’s chubby skin, I get anxious on a whole new level. Isn’t it my job to protect my children? I feel I am failing Glenn, he deserves better.  What haven’t I tried? I need to do more, sooner to make change happen.

One night I tucked Glenn, into bed and asked him point blank, “Do you think Jimmy is a bully?”
“Definitely,” he said without missing a beat, his vocabulary word of choice sounded so mature. It made me give a concerned smile in the dark room. “Definitely Mom, he is a bully.”
“I wish he didn’t act like that. I saw that bruise… Why do you think he is so mean?”
“He’s scared, Mom.”

This answer surprised me and was interesting. What did Jimmy have to be scared of, I thought? He struck me as nearly always fearless, cocky, bossy. Yet one of the many articles I’ve read about bullying and challenging behaviors talked about how these kids lack necessary skills to deal with situations they find uncomfortable. I was fascinated with Glenn’s interpretation.

“Scared? I asked.
“Yeah, Mom there’s too many kids at school. If they all joined together they would be stronger than Jimmy, but if there are just a few he can handle them. Nobody wants to fight him.”
This was quite a theory. According to Glenn, Jimmy’s bullying was preventative maintenance for his own insecurity.
“Are you scared Glenn?”
“No, nobody will fight with me cause of Jimmy.”
I ask, “But who’s the bully in your class? What would you do if…”
“If somebody bugs me, Mom, I just tell them to stop.”
“What if they don’t stop?”
“Then I keep telling them or tell the yard duty lady…or grab them by the shirt and pull them away.”
“Grab them by the shirt, huh? And Jimmy—why doesn’t he just grab people by the shirt?”
“Because, he just punches them the first time. That’s why he gets in trouble. Yeah, that’s why he gets sent to the office.”

Jimmy’s troubles started early, before Glenn could properly pronounce the word “suspended.” And now that Glenn is a student at the same school, I have seen him acknowledge the comments, “I saw your brother in the office…” and the questions, “Was he suspended again?”

At school, in the neighborhood, at home, Jimmy lacks patience, self-control, fails to make good choices. Glenn on the other hand has a lot of wisdom beyond his mere eight years. My husband and I joke that he is the patron saint of forgiveness and brotherly love. His patience and ability to adapt and accept situations amazes and inspires me. He is a survivor. The lessons he’s learned in dealing with his brother: asking for help, redirecting anger, using his sense of humor, will serve him well in other parts of his life.

My sons share a room. Glenn listens to Jimmy’s bedtime stories sometimes before they fall asleep. They giggle and talk with the lights out and I know that Glenn loves Jimmy and visa versa despite the bruises, the bullying.

As our family struggles forward with the hope that Jimmy will not always be this way, I hope that my sons will continue to love one another. That they will grow up to be friends as well as brothers. I deeply love both of them and pray for their successful futures. After they have fallen asleep, I am thankful for the peace and quiet. And I hope that tomorrow will be a good day…like any mother would.
